In
Storytime Plus,
two of Esphyr Slobodkina’s stories,
Mary and the Poodies
and
The Wonderful Feast
are delightfully performed as musical narratives.

After a performance of
Mary and the Poodies,
children talk about how the poodies helped Mary to be good.
Each child receives a follow-the-dots page. They are asked
to make a "good manners" poodie that might help them do
something that they don't like to do. A discussion period
follows.
Through
Mary and the Poodies,
children learn that being good can be very easy with
a little help
from
the imagination. Finally, children learn the "poodie" song
and act out the manners of their poodies while they sing
together.
In
The Wonderful Feast,
children listen to Esphyr's brilliant story about sharing. All the animals in
the barnyard are hungry. Why is their plenty for everyone?
Children participate through song and mime.*
