Billie, written by Esphyr Slobodkina and illustrated by Meg Wohlberg. Published in 1959 by Lothrop, Lee & Shepard.

Billie is a tomboy who takes dance lessons to help heel a sprained ankle. She soon finds herself embracing girly things - like pink satin slippers and spangled dragonfly wings. In this story, the tomboy turns out to be the belle of the ballet school.
